A Wedding at Lulworth Castle, Dorset
A Wedding at Lulworth Castle
Earlier this year, I travelled to Wareham in Dorset to photograph a wedding at Lulworth Castle. From the moment I stepped onto the castle grounds, I knew the wedding would be totally epic! But, let’s start from the beginning.
I first met Christina and Ben last year, at a wedding in Oxford. Marie, Christina’s sister, had booked me as photographer. I was thrilled when Christina and Ben approached me about their own wedding. In the world of wedding photography, receiving an enquiry from a new client who is a family relation to the client you are working with, is a highly valued compliment.
This was my first visit to Lulworth Castle as a wedding photographer. Perhaps when you think of a wedding in a castle, you might imagine a traditional and formal event. Well, this isn’t entirely the case. The castle has recently been tastefully refurbished, the space providing an open and airy atmosphere, perfect for natural light photography.
On a windy day, Christina and Ben married in St Mary’s Chapel, a beautiful Georgian building situated on the Lulworth Castle estate. After the ceremony, the bridal party and wedding guests formed a parade led by a traditional Mexican Mariachi band and headed to the venue.
The wedding breakfast and evening reception were held inside the Lulworth Castle. After speeches had been made, the bride and groom took on the challenge of cutting the cake. As it turns out, cutting cake can be a difficult task when trying to do so with a real sword! Thankfully, Ben proved to be a natural and the cake was neatly sliced.
After the first dance, the newly weds and I sneaked out for a sunset shoot. Luckily, we caught the golden hour just at it’s peak – a proper cherry on the cake.
